What Is Uni-directional vs. Bi-directional Scanning?
-
Uni-directional scanning: The laser head engraves only in one direction (e.g. left to right), then returns without engraving.
-
Bi-directional scanning: The laser head engraves in both directions (left to right and right to left), improving speed.
Recommended Scanning Mode Based on Your Goal:
| Objective | Recommended Mode | WHY |
| Maximize speed/efficiency | Bi-directional | Faster engraving in both directions |
| Color consistency | Uni-directional | More stable laser energy and heat; reduces color banding |
| High-quality color engraving | Uni-directional | Better detail and color accuracy, especially for gradient or array |
| Engraving on black materials | Uni-directional | Bi-directional can cause slight ghosting or blur on edges |
| Simple monochrome engraving | Bi-directional | Ideal if speed matters more than precision |
| Soft or heat-sensitive materials | Uni-directional | Reduces heat buildup and risk of warping or burning |
