Color Engraving with WeCreat Lumos

  • Available for Software Version: 3.0.1 or newer
  • Supported Laser Model: Lumos Only
  • Supported Working Mode: laser flat and laser cylindrical only
  • Supported Module Type: 3W IR only

Important Notes

  1. Color numbers may vary between machines – the color sequence is not universal across all devices.

  2. Different materials produce different colors – not all materials react the same under laser exposure.

  3. If you follow the test process and still can’t achieve color engraving, it’s likely that the material you’re using does not support color engraving. In that case, we recommend switching to a different material.

  4. Even with the same material, different thicknesses may produce different results – each thickness requires a separate color test.

  5. After completing a color test, the results only apply to the exact same material and thickness. For consistent color output, please use the same tested material under the same conditions.

Step 1. Open MakeIt software and switch to 3W mode. Click Toolbox>Color Engraving test

Step 2. Put in the material to be engraved and click Next Step,

Step 3. Turn the manual focus knob until the blue dot and red dot align.

Step 4. Set block numbers or keep the defaulted settings and click Next Step.

Step 5. Adjust block size and position if needed>send the project to the laser

Note: The final engraving area will match the position of the blue preview box on your material.

Step 6. Close the lid, press start button, the laser module will engrave corresponding color blocks at different focal distance.

Step 7. Choose one of the color block.

Step 8. Keep defaulted settings and proceed to do array test.,

Step 9. Adjust the size and position of the test grid, then send the project of the laser.

Step 10. After the array test finish, enable color engraving, then input focal distance selected in step 7.

Step 11. Import a design with multiple layers, choose power and speed for each layer based on the array test grids.

FAQ:

Q1: Can I do color engraving on curved surfaces like flasks or tumblers?
A: No. Color engraving is not supported on curved or irregular surfaces, such as flasks, curved tumblers, or any non-cylindrical shapes.

Q2: What types of materials support color engraving on cylinders?
A: Only bare, shiny metal cylinders are compatible. Suitable materials include:

  • Polished stainless steel (e.g. cups, cylinders)

  • Copper (e.g. cups, bracelets)

  • Titanium (e.g. cups, rings, bracelets)

  • ⚠️ Coated or painted metals are not supported for color engraving.

Q3: Can I engrave on tapered or angled cups?
A: No. Color engraving is only supported on straight, uniform cylindrical items. Tapered or slanted surfaces may cause alignment and color inconsistencies.

Q4: Can I engrave color on Stanley cups or similar items?
A: Unfortunately, no. Stanley cups and similar items are typically coated with paint or powder, which prevents proper color engraving.

Q5: Is there a size limit for cylindrical items used for color engraving?
A: Yes. The maximum supported diameter is 95mm. Larger items may not rotate properly during engraving, affecting the result.
